Surface sealing of Warden landfill
Project period
2012 until 2013
Client
AWA Entsorgung GmbH
Task and implementation
At the former Alsdorf-Warden central landfill, the landfill body was sealed in a section of plot 1 (approx. 28,500 m²) using two different surface sealing systems. On an area of approx. 20,000 m², which will later be used as a commercial area for waste management and energy facilities, a sealing system (from top to bottom) consisting of a media horizon d = 0.6 m, a drainage layer d = 0.3 m, a plastic sealing sheet (KDB) and a geosynthetic clay sealing sheet (GTD) was constructed. The embankment areas with a slope of 1:3 were sealed with a recultivation layer d = 1.3 m, a drainage mat, a plastic sealing sheet and a geosynthetic clay sealing sheet. Subsequently, drainage, gas collection and seepage water pressure pipelines were laid and two aeration and ventilation shafts made of PE for the seepage water pressure pipelines were installed.
