Task and implementation
Entsorgungswirtschaft Soest GmbH has been operating a facility for composting organic and green waste in Anröchte since 1998. Originally designed as an open windrow composting system with suction ventilation, stricter immission control regulations required conversion into a closed system. In addition, we were commissioned to integrate a biogas plant in order to utilise the energetic potential of the biowaste in the future.
As a result, we redesigned the plant so that it is now operated by means of partial flow fermentation using the plug flow process. Downstream, tunnel composting takes place. This is designed for a high water discharge, which prevents the formation of undesirable liquid fertiliser. The raw compost is finely processed on site, and the biogas is converted into energy in two combined heat and power plants. The electricity generated there covers the plant’s own needs and is also fed into the grid. The heat is used in the fermentation and composting processes and heats the buildings on site.
