In 2021, pbo won the engineering competition for the planning of the Abfallentsorgungs- und Verwertungsgesellschaft Köln mbH (AVG) bottom ash processing plant and was commissioned with the general planning services for the service profiles §43 HOAI Engineering Structures and §55 HOAI Technical Equipment.
The planning process is well advanced. An application has been submitted for approval under the Federal Immission Control Act and is expected in the coming weeks. The tender documents will be prepared at the beginning of 2025 so that the award procedures can be started.
On 10.07.2024, our client received a grant notification for several million euros. The bottom ash processing concept planned by pbo would be recognized as a “climate-relevant model project”. Brief definition Multi-phase recovery of recyclable materials from incinerator bottom ash: AVG is planning the construction of a new processing plant for incinerator bottom ash, consisting of a multi-phase and multi-stage processing technology for the treatment of 175,000 Mg of bottom ash per year. For this purpose, a new and innovative process concept is to be implemented, which will generate an additional climate benefit of around 225,000 Mg CO2 equivalents over the effective period of the investment (20 years) through the first holistic combination of approaches for the multi-phase recovery of recyclable materials from bottom ash according to the “Rougher, Scavenger and Cleaner” processing approach. At the same time, the project will serve as a model for a large number of other waste management companies due to the location-independent nature of the concept.
